Rupicola Peruviana

(Andean Cock-of-the-Rock)

The Cock-of-the Rock is one of the world's most spectacular birds. Its fantastic plumage and colorful courtship display equal those of any bird of paradise.1

A beautiful orange crest adorns the head of the cock-of-the-rock and brilliant orange, black and white feathers cover its back and wings.2

Like some other cotingids they have a complex court behaviour, performing impressive lek displays.3

Their nests are built on the rock faces of cliffs, large boulders, caves or steep gorges. The female Cock-of-the-Rock builds the nest and raises the young without assistance from the male. The normal clutch size is 2 eggs.1

Allpalluta has an active lek near the main lodge facility, you can come and take great pictures an hear this spectacular and unique mating ritual.
